Neck Pain Tips – Kyle TX Chiropractor

Are you tired of living with neck pain? Have you started to think that it is normal to have headaches? Maybe you have started to have migraines or that upper back tension is unbearable! These are all very common reasons to find a chiropractor and get your spine aligned. There are a few causes that lead most to experience neck pain….

#1- The Neck Joints are out of alignment or lack proper movement. When the joint get stuck they lose their ability to move freely throughout their range of motion and start to feel stiff. A healthy joint has a springy quality of movement to it.

#2- Irritated or Pinched Nerves. The nerves coming off of the spinal cord in your neck exit the spinal bone through holes in the side. Improper alignment or posture of the bones causes that hole for the nerve to become more narrow. This increases your chances of the nerve rubbing on the bone and getting irritated or pinched. These can cause neck pain, numbness in the hand, carpal tunnel like symptoms, headaches, tingling and more.

#3- Poor Posture- Years of sitting at a computer for your job will at some point lead to neck or low back pain or other conditions. The neck is meant to have a specific curvature in the spine and poor posture at the computer, driving, sleep position, or excess time looking down at phones or tablets will diminish the curve, thus leading to the eventual onset of migraines or headaches, muscle tension or pain.

#4- Tense muscles- Changes in the curvature of the spine will force the muscle to lengthen and thus seem tense. Extra stress, whether it be mental (work/relationship/money), physical (manual labor/desk job/repetitive motion) or chemical (poor nutrition/dehydration) will increase tension in the muscles. The upper back is where people “hold their stress”. This is because of the changes mentioned in #3.

These are a few quick references to the most common reasons that lead to neck pain, back pain, headaches including migraines, jaw pain (TMJ) and more. If you would like to find out why you have neck pain, we are here to help!

Get Out of Pain! Kyle TX Chiropractor Reviews Easy Steps to Improve Health

Almost everyone has experienced low back pain, a nagging headache or a crick in the neck! Back pain is actually the #2 reason for missed days at work across the United States and accounts for the #2 reason why people go to their doctor!  So it would be safe to assume that you’ve either experienced it…or you will at some point.  So here are 5 easy tips to follow at home that don’t take much time, effort or money to keep your body moving.

#1- Drink Water…and lots of it.  This will cut out sugars, caffeine and artificial products from soda, juices, energy drinks, coffee, etc.  Over half of Americans are sub-clinically dehydrated and don’t even know it. Every one of your body’s functioning processes need water.  Staying hydrated reduces inflammation in the intestinal tract, keeps the muscles happy and reduces your sensitivity to pain.

#2- Find an exercise you enjoy. Your body benefits from movement and stimulation. Find a sport/hobby/exercise class/competition to make exercise fun. If it’s enjoyable you will continue to do it. Regular movement improves bone density, speeds up metabolism and keeps your brain sharp.

#3- Take care of your SPINE!  Your spine is to your body what the fuse box is to your house.  If the nerves are getting pinched and squeezed then they will not function at their best to communicate the messages from your brain to the rest of your body. Chiropractors are famous for putting you back together after a car accident or when your back goes out, but they can also keep your body tuned up for optimal function. This will help the elite athlete and stay at home mom alike.

#4- Sleep. There is no substitute for sleep. You may try to substitute with coffee and energy drinks and that may wake you up for the day. If this becomes a habit you will eventually pay for it down the road. Sleep is when your body regenerates and repairs itself. It rejuvenates and heals. Robbing yourself of this repeatedly increases your chance of disease later.

#5- Read often. This might seem out of place to some, but avid readers know what I’m talking about. Reading is like exercise to the brain. It improves cognitive function, staves off dementia, improves critical thinking skills. It can be a great strength to the mind-body connection.

Top 5 Underlying Causes to Your Back Pain- by a Chiropractic Doctor in Kyle TX

Top 5 Underlying Causes to Your Back Pain- by a Chiropractic Doctor in Kyle TX

Did you know that back pain is the second most common reason that employees miss work?  It ranks behind only the common cold.  Studies show that most people will experience a substantial event of back or neck pain throughout their life.  It’s something that most people will not act to prevent from happening, but will react and seek care after pain, numbness or other symptoms appear.
I hear it all the time…”Not sure what caused this pain, it just started” or “What do you think caused this kink in my neck?”  The answer is usually an accumulation of events rather than one single event such as a car accident.

So, here are the TOP 5 UNDERLYING CAUSES to your neck pain or back pain!

#1- Your Posture!  When you’ve spent years sitting at a computer for 8 hours a day or you grow up looking straight down at your iphone or ipad, the result is inevitable that the curves in your spine will have problems.  The neck curve will straighten out and sometimes start to curve in the reverse, the shoulders start rounding forward and the head hangs more forward in a forward head posture.

#2- Your Sleeping Position! Imagine walking around all day with your neck flopped over to the side for eight hours.  Sure sounds like a pain in the neck, eh? Yet, every night you are going to sleep and doing the same thing night after night.  On top of that, your hips are all twisted up all night, thus torqueing your lower back and twisting the spine.  See where I’m going with this?

#3- Your Sedentary Lifestyle! Imagine a day like this…you wake up and sit down as you drive to work to sit down at your desk to go and sit down to eat lunch to go back to sit down at the desk to the sit down in the car to drive home to sit down for dinner to sit down and watch some TV. All the while, sitting puts more stress on your lower back than standing.  Remember this, sitting is to your spine what sugar is to your teeth.

#4- Your Stress! Stress is the #1 contributing factor to health in America. It is the greatest contributor to heart disease, stroke, cancer, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, musculoskeletal pain including neck pain, back pain, migraines and headaches.

#5- Your Old Car Accident! Research shows that more than half of car accident victims will have some lingering effects from a past motor vehicle accident. Whiplash is notorious for stretching out ligaments, damaging the muscles and changing the spinal curves.  Too many pop a few Tylenols and get the pain to go away, but fail to get the proper treatment necessary.  This often times requires chiropractic care, physical therapy or home exercise, x-rays, and a proper treatment plan

Kyle, TX Chiropractor Treats Sciatica, Hip Pain, Leg Pain, Numbness, Tingling, Pain

One question that I occasionally hear is: Can you treat sciatica?  The answer is usually YES!  Radiating pain down the leg  resulting in numbness or tingling is usually referred to as sciatica. Sometimes this is coming from the actual sciatic nerve and sometimes it is coming from one of the lumbar nerve roots as it branches off the spinal cord in the low back.  Either way the process is usually the same.  When pressure is placed on the nerve, causing pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, hot/cold sensitivity, these are all nerve symptoms.  The #1 cause of these nerve symptoms is improper alignment in the low back portion of the spine. Misalignment can cause pinching, irritation or squeezing on the nerve which will eventually result in the symptoms associated with sciatica.  Chiropractic care can help with sciatica.  In fact, most days we see a couple of patients with sciatica.
After spinal misalignment, the next most common cause is muscles pressing the nerve and duplicating the same sciatic-like pains. Chiropractors can also help in this situation by improving joint alignment, reducing the muscle spasm or tension, and recommending the correct stretches to help the pain.
The third most common cause of sciatica is a bulging disc.  Disc bulging is very common and sometimes the bulge is just pressing onto the nerve passing by resulting in the familiar numbness and tingling.  Disc spaces can be evaluated on x-ray by a chiropractor and this condition can be resolved in most people.
Sciatica can also be associated with low back pain, hip pain, leg pain and other problems.  If you would like to see if chiropractic care can help you give our office a call at 512-405-0400.  You can read more about us at  http://www.browningfamilychiropractic.com/
